The 6950 to 6970 unlock thread - Page 28

K, luckily I never did that. I switched to number 2, rebooted, switched back, then flashed back to the 6950.rom file that I made before flashing the card.

Since I can't get back to my machine for a good 7 hours, what would you recommend trying if that doesn't work just so I have a couple things to try if plan A fails?

You don't wanna know. It's a long 7 hours, just wait to try the above first.

Well...I can guess. Let's just hope this works out. I'm honestly probably going to take a half day just so I can work this crap out to see if I have to order another card.. *sigh*

Edit: I'll probably get home in three hours. Stick around : )

Just fyi so you can verify the process I went through:

- I went and got Winflash, made a back up of the 6950 bios and put it in the winflash folder which I placed on my desktop

- Went and got the XFX 6970 bios and placed it in the winflash folder after renaming it unlock.bin

- At the command line: cd %userprofile%\\desktop\\winflash
atiwinflash -unlockrom 0 (the only card being the one in the primary slot)
atiwinflash -f -p 0 unlock.bin

- Reboot & reinstalled drivers

- Test. Fail.

- Switched the switch to 2 on the card, rebooted, switched back to 1, flashed back to 6950 bios using same process.

- Same suck performance after a good check out in gpu-z and ccc

How does it work on the failsafe #2? The point of reinstalling on #2 was to see if it works normal on failsafe.

Btw, a brick is just that a brick. You don't have a brick, but possibly a core that wasn't very happy unlocked.

I'd like to know this as well. Seems like popular opinion around here is save your money, buy a 6950 and flash to 6970. I watercool so cooling won't be a problem. I'd like to buy Amazon as I have a credit card rewards program through them.

Would this card work?

Thanks.

Asus and Sapphire seem to be good choices from what I have seen plus I have an Asus and my 6970 flash went off without a hitch.
