The 6950 to 6970 unlock thread - Page 37

Unlocking shaders isn't a guaranteed success in that you don't have a bad core to begin with. This is why you need to prove whether it's the shaders or the voltage.

Sorry I think you misunderstood. The unlocking of the shaders is fine. runs 100% stable at stock voltage 1.1v.

If the shaders are the reason I can not overvolt then so be it I already have more then what I paid for.

Was just seeing if I was doing something wrong or someone else had run ito the same issue.

Well I guess my actually question was is there a fix for either?? If its the shaders or just the voltage.

I guess probably not as nobody else has chimed in with a similar experience.

Guess I'll have to be satisfied with what I have

I'm going to try the actual 6970 bios and see if that makes a difference although I'm sure its a waste of time.

Mine runs @ 890/1375 with no voltage increase

Very nice at 880 and 1325(I probably could and should raise that) I froze once in Crysis @1080p max everything with graphics mods but survived Vantage 3D Mark 06/11

So I'm not sure if that was the overclock or just a coincidence.

If I were you I'd try an Asus 6970 BIOS
I have my 6950s running at 940/1450 @ 1.1. however if I raise the clock to 950 it takes 1.25 so im leaving the core alone. Haven't messed around with the mem to much. Any reason to see if I can push it higher?

For the record I have found that 99 crisis benchmark loops is the most effective easy to test for stability on my cards.

I unlocked my 2 6950's and am 100% stable @ 900 MHz core with no voltmods. Put both cards in once they were unlocked seperatly and slid the slider in MSI to 900. No problems since and I haven't tried to go higher so I can't comment on that. Only shader unlocked the bios the cards came with. One was "made by AMD" and has the big black HS. The other has a dual fan design and is shorter PBC, and "powered by AMD". Both are from Visiontek. I'm supprised I got 2 different cards, but I could care less since they seem to have good chips inside them. Havent tried any memory overclocks yet.

Is your video card ram overclocked any? Thats where alot of artifacts for me have come from historically. When OC'ing the core I usually will crash or have a more serious error other than artifacts.

You could just plain ol' have a bum shader when pushing it too far in your unlocked portion, which I hope isn't the case

Edit: Just noticed my join date compared to my post count == lol. Also another tidbit. The last card I unlocked was the x850 XT PE... Thank you W1ZZARD!
