New to OC

Thread Starter
Hi, I'm really new to overclocking. I have this AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ 2.4GHz processor and was wondering if anyone can teach me how to make this faster without destroying my system. I've been using it at the current settings on the validation for about 4 years now (got the 1gig sticks of RAM about 3 months ago). Any information would be greatly appreciated.

i would start by setting a realistic overclocking goal, say, 2.8ghz or something like that.
Next i would start bumping up the FSB until the system becomes unstable or the overclock goal is reached. If it becomes unstable, figure out why. For your system, keep the hypertransport speed at or under 1000mhz. For voltage, ive looked up the specs on your processor, the safe voltage limit is 1.35v. Make sure that you have a beefy cooling solution on the processor, as at stock its already at or over 110w.

You can go a LITTLE over for voltage, but holding the voltage at say, 1.4V will slowly but surely damage the processor, and a replacement will be needed in a few years.
