The 6970 used 6p and 8p but 6950 only has 2x6p, what does that mean for unlocking, I guess its far too early to know the effects, but I can't get either till mid Feb anyway.

If you use a PCI gen 2 port, it can deliver up-to 150 watts of power, plus the 2 6 pin capable of delivering 150 watts in total. This basically means you can safely unlock it, use it at generic 6970 clocks, even at the power counter at +20% running furmark, you would still be safe at maximum consumption of 250ish watts.

If you look at the 6950 PCB, its identical, literally to the 6970, only where an 8 pin should be, there is a 6 pin in place. You can always mod 2 additional ground cables to the pcb and turn that 6pin into semi functional ghetto like 8pin in terms of power delivery.

Its up to you to do it nice and clean so if the card fails, you can unmod it and make it look like no one tampered with it.
