For the F3's, I'd say 3 drives raid 0 shot stroked to ~120GB or so for OS and necessary programs/games you want the most performance from. Leave the 4th 500GB for storage/games/big apps. Honestly you'd be much happier just getting an affordable SSD for your OS and using the F3's for everything else.

Something like this Mushkin Enhanced Callisto Deluxe:

I assure you, it would be the best $99 you've ever spent on your rig. Just ask ANYONE who has made the jump to SSD. It literally feels night and day. Everything.

I bet you fifty million that they don't demolish it in the 4k speeds..where it matters the most and in the access time. Let's see that review.

I just wanted to point out, i will not be installing wondows on the SSD. I just wanna run a few games off it so they constantly load quick. Would it be ok if i ran windows on my raid 0 hard drive setup and use a ssd seperate for games.

That Mushkin is 40GB. I was hoping for a 60GB Min.
So it's either between the Mushkin you said, or this,
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/160731...edium=products

Also, what does this mean. I found it on a product review about SSD's.

Also note to get the best performance run OCZs TRIM software called wiper.exe about one a week or more if you find the speed of the drive has reduced.
Will i have to do the wiper thing? Where do i get the latest drivers for these SSD's. Do i need to install firmwire? Ive no idea what am doing with these.

Well, I personally use that exact Vertex 60GB and its lightning fast. But, what's your budget? Because if you can go up to £90.87 then that extends your choices quite a bit. You do know that's $140, right?

Well Windows 7 supports trim natively so as long as you're running any of the later Indilinx SSD's or SF-1200 SSD's they'll already have trim built in. If in doubt on a particular model, you can always check to get the latest firmware. Any of the SSD's mentioned here support trim.

What is firmware? Is it the SSD itsself or software that works with the SSD?
My ultimate high budget is £75, no higher.

edit:http://www.ebuyer.com/product/232639

Also, the Mushkin is really hard to find in the UK by a seller that accepts paypal.

This is the biggest misconception when it comes to gaming. Game load times are almost entirely CPU-speed dependent, and not hard drive dependent. The game data is stored as a compressed format, and 99% of the load time is just the CPU crunching to decompress the data--not for hard drive transfer time. Benchmarks have shown this for RAID0 vs. single disk arrays with the CPU at the same (stock) speed. The only thing that caused a noticeable change in game load times is CPU speed.

Give me a bit and I'll dig up the source.

EDIT--I should have specified, you probably will notice a decrease in stuttering when loading textures after you've started a game--the SSD will help out there for sure. Sorry if there was any confusion.

I know lol, it's ok. Oh, quick questions.
Do i have to install FirmWire? If yes, where do i get it from?
Do i need to activate TRIM or will it all be sorted for me seen as am using Win 7?
If i need to reformat the SSD, Do i need to do it a special way?
Can i run the SSD along side a raid set-up?
Do i need speical drivers, if yes, where do i get them from?

(All questions based on the OCZ Vortex Series 2 40GB)(http://www.ebuyer.com/product/232639)

Thank you mate.

1. You shouldn't have to. You would get it from the manufacturer's website.
2. Trim is automatic with Windows 7. Just make sure you configure your services to not automatically defrag and ensure superfetch is turned off.
3. No special way. Just do a clean wipe, partition, and install.
4. No special drivers needed.

FYI: There's a really good program for tweaking your SSD settings within Windows called SSD Tweaker. Download here:

I found this review on SSD impact on gaming--much more relevant than the previous RAID0 benchmarks from a few years ago. Looks like with more modern games, with more demanding textures, and more demanding engines that rely more on disk input/output, SSD's do yield a good performance difference relative to HDD's. Anand's review here:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/2614/14
So you should DEFINITELY do it now!

Can't find the specific one for RAID0 benchmarks vs. game load times that I mentioned, but it was pretty much ineffective at yielding any sort of noticeable gaming performance difference vs. a single drive. Perhaps given the age of it, it's long since taken down.

How do i ensure superfetch is off?
I will DL the software, thank you.
Also, should i get the Vertex you have, or the 40GB Vertex 2 with far higher read/write performance?

All this time ive argued that HDD's massivly important with loading and stutter issues. This is awesome proof and supports SSD's! yay!
