And all this 5ghz stable on Air noob talk really needs to stop...
Until people get these chips and see what it can do i would keep my mouth Shut..

Sb Fan boy's Trolling these threads and filling them full of hot air.... Really needs to stop until you can back them up.

And so far from what has been posted... Sb is really un impressive to say the least... But the early Release Is a mainstream socket so we should not be expecting much out of it...

When Ivy comes around or SB ep and the Pci lanes are DBl for the Enthusiast people then we will have something to talk about...
Honestly, the only fan boys that I've noticed lately are the Core i7-950 buyers who seem to be suffering from buyer's remorse because they plopped down so much money this close to a new CPU launch.

I also know people with SB and your claims are ridiculous to say the least.

And At best the Majority will reach 4.5ghz on Air 24/7 Oh wait ive already done that.
You're under water cooling, not air, 4.5GHz 24/7 on LGA 1366 usually requires a good CPU with a low VID and watercooling. Which you have. By all indications, Sandy Bridge will be a great architecture, with about 2-4% better performance over 1366 clock for clock in single threaded benchmarks. Samples are hitting 4.8GHz on air, they may be hand-picked to build up buzz in the enthusiast community, but not even an Intel hand-picked-super-low-VID i7 950 is going to hit 4.8GHz on air.

The good motherboards (P67) do run Crossfire/SLI in 8x/8x, but that's not really an issue- you may lose 8%ish performance running 2 high-end (GTX 470 or greater) cards, which isn't even noticeable.

But Sandy Bridge isn't supposed to be aimed at current i5/i7 owners. It's aimed at the mass market, people coming from LGA 775 or lower who are on a budget, and AM3 owners. If these chips are as good as preliminary results show, Intel is going to cash in.

Ah nope i have not hooked my loop up that is 4.5ghz on air.

The water loop is for trying for 5ghz

And the performance on gpu gap is bigger then the cpu gap..

Tri Sli With very fast cards is going to suffer on SB.
That is why it is a Main stream socket.. And not a enthusiast Socket.

Honestly My needs is gaming benching and running a 2550x1600 res Monitor... SB Would perform much less for that then my sig.

And another thing is i could very easily sell MY mb ram and cpu.. Buy the 2600k and ram and a mb.. And still have money left over. But that would be Stupid because SB Would perform less then my sig for my needs.
Yes there is 2 gpus in there now but i will be adding a 3rd very soon.

These isn't that much more improvement in 3 gpus vs 2 for the most part, so the SB wouldn't be losing much gaming performance in comparison to x58. Not many people run 3 gpus anyway, so that really isn't all that important for most people. Also, 3 gpus requires expensive motherboards, and large cases or water cooling, so for the vast majority of people it's not a valid argument.

Plus, three gpus tends to be cpu limited even at 4+ ghz overclocks, so an i7 950 w/ 3 gpus vs SB with 2 may not be that much faster.

There seem to be a lot of core 7 950 owners trying to defend their cpus... that's fine but downtalking SB is getting annoying. Who cares if it's mainstream or enthusiast? Tri-channel memory and three gpus are really not valid arguments, since that many gpus are usually cpu limited, and tri-channel ram does next to nothing beside benchmarks. Downtalking something before it is released is just pathetic. If it's faster just put up with it, new and better things come out all the time. It may not necessarily be better than x58, but if the SB cpus clock like the early benches, SB may offer a nice improvement.

So OP, it may be best to wait to see the official reviews before you buy either.

How many potential P67 owners do you think are actually going to run 3 card setups? Not many is my guess. As for Xfire/SLI vs X58.. not too worried about it

the best advice here is to wait until SB is released and proper comparisons are made, then choose what's best for your usage and budget.

Just wait... if SB is any good, get SB. Otherwise, buy the 950 since its price should've dropped by then.
