Bottlenecking a myth - Page 2

Thread Starter
Sure you'll gain 5fps in bc2 but I doubt you'll notice it especially in crisis or cod and many other titles not to say the games won't become more dependent on multiple cores . What I'm most trying to say is don't be worried about a bottleneck with 1 card , you won't notice it, save your cash, 5fps in 3 out of 10 games is not worth a complete platform for 600$

I don't think he's trying to troll at all, tough his presentation of the discussion is ill-suited to encouraging discourse. He sees data that contradicts one of the most common concerns when upgrading a GPU on an older CPU, and what he sees appears to support the argument.

But those of you who cite specific instances of a new CPU improving overall performance are not wrong. From what I see, the tests he referenced are designed specifically to separate the hardware components in the system and test them individually. It's no surprise that there's little difference between the GPU results and that the CPU results are vastly different.

However, relatively few of us buy hardware simply to benchmark, and are better served by doing research on what components and combination of components perform best in a given software environment.

This could be a good discussion; just let's try to ignore the slightly confrontational tone of the original post.

its no secret that 3D marks only use 2 cores for the game tests, but need a lot of CPU power for the CPU test to keep the score in line with what the GPU should be getting.

this is why GPU score is much more relevant than the overall score. Even C2D's can get comparable results.

This is a good post. I definitely have to agree that although OP may not be trolling, the way he phrased it sounded like "Hey guys C2D = i7 In FPS!!"

Why don't you try running a game like AVP and then say CPU bottlenecking is a myth.
