How do I make a second set of windows 7 HP recovery discs?

My friend was about to pay $100 to reformat his HP DV4 laptop with 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium. I couldnt find his recovery discs and when I tried to make a second set of course HP didnt allow that. Ive have seen a guide on how to make another set by deleting hpcd.sys however I cant seem to find the file in the recovery partition or in the windows folder. Any help?
