Asus 5770 Problem

Thread Starter
ok so i got a 5770 for £90 the other week and its going fine, i then got COD Black Ops for christmas and thought my 5770 will easy run that with a decent fps, but i was wrong.
Im getting like at the start of the round (on public) 1 fps for the first 5 seconds then lags for 10 seconds after that with about 15 fps then it goes ok but still quite laggy with 39ish fps not great with low graphics and draw de-coils off.
My system is as follows:

2GB ram
AMD Athlon II x 4 640 (3.00Ghz)
Asus eah5770 tweaked edition.
Running direct x 11
Windows 7 ultimate
I have a slingbox for internet connection with 20mb Broadband but i get about 8 upstairs

Any help or any more info needed just Reply cus its really annoying me ive ran out of ideas.

Power supply?

EDIT: Also, I'm not sure if the 2GB of RAM is really adequate for running games..

The lag may partly be caused by the HDD scrambling to load and re-load textures due to the low amount of RAM.

This, most likely having to hit HDD due to low RAM for new textures/maps, which will always make a drastic hit in FPS.

Do you Think freeing up some processes will help?
I got 58 running atm not sure what else i can get rid of, got 1250 free
post #8 of 11
Eliminating any background processes will help.
What OS are you running btw?
2gb's run pretty cheap right now and would be worth while.

win 7 ultimate,
Vast improvement in stopping a few processes but still have like 50 running, can i cut that more maybe?
Also when i alt+tab it takes maybe 15 seconds to get back to the game, what could this be because of?
My monitor is old and a new 1 is on its way. do you think it could be this?
The alt tab delay would likely be partially due too the limited ram as windows will store resent task.programs that are in the background depending on what you are using to the HDD as the memory space is limited.

It does take ~3 seconds to alt tab out for myself with 6gb's and an SSD depending on the game.

With Win7 you arent going to be able to cut down much more than at least 1gb of ram used by background processes.

Monitor would not effect this. 2gb's more ram and your smooth sailing.
