What is your ratio of mouse to keyboard usage? - Page 2

I know a lot of keyboard shortcuts and I am always using keyboard shortcuts, but honestly today's UI's are designed to be used by mouse, not keyboard. It is appealing to the lowest common denominator, and while keyboard is almost always faster, it is harder to learn than using the mouse, which is a very intuitive thing.

I would guess I use them about equally, but I would assume that most end users are using their mouse 90+% of the time.

Of course you are referring to using the keyboard for opening programs, selecting files, opening tabs, etc, and not for typing words obviously.

I am probably 50/50, when it comes to just controlling the PC.

I don't use many kb shortcuts and my mouse has a refresh button, scroll wheel, and back and forth buttons... very little use for the keyboard unless typing words.
How do you open a new tab? How do you open your last closed tab? What about opening a program like Paint or Calculator? B/C I'll hit Ctrl+T, Ctrl+Shift+T, Winkey+R and type in mspaint or calc, etc.

Those keyboard shortcuts are much faster than using the mouse. Also regular things like ctrl+C, ctrl+V, Shift+Home to highlight a selection of text, Alt+F4 obviously, Winkey+Tab or Alt+Tab, Alt+P for print in most programs, etc. Of course there are too many shortcuts for me to list here in a post.

Perhaps if you tried using your keyboard once in a while you'd be able to spell "neural" correctly.

80 mouse/20 keyboard.
how are you going to move a mouse with a keyboard?
I hardly know any shortcuts, so it would probably be 90 mouse, 10 keyboard for me.

If I traveled a lot in order to make use of a laptop more, I would probably take the time to learn the shortcuts with a keyboard. But right now, I use my desktop more than anything else.

I only use my mouse for point and click (and even then if my cursors a few pixels away only i'll use the keyboard to move the cursor) even scrolling is done via keyboard.

mouse keys, lets you move the cursor with the numpad.
and if 20% of your usage is mouse movement you're doing it wrong.

It's actually tough to say, and entirely depends on what I'm doing. If it's just browsing, then it's probably 90% mouse and 10% keyboard. Other things, it's pretty obvious (i.e. word processing vs. photoshopping).

I don't really see the point of this, unless you want to know specifically for something like web-browsing, whether people rely on the mouse or the keyboard.
