Thread Starter
Ok iam hardwired to my cable modem, and i have a soft connection to my wireless internet (though my nexus one)

I need to be able to divide the connections. To choose what connection i want to use with what application.

What would be the best way and or software i could use to do this with?

DUEL of teh interwebz ftw!

Nope, no easy way for you to do it unless you have two separated windows accounts and enable real-time user switching, where one account is set up with one connection and the other is set up with the other. I did this on an old XP installation once just to see how it worked out--it was more of a pain than anything, and isn't practical by any means.

Besides, if you have the same connection source, but one is hardwired and the other is wireless, you're still limited to the max connection speed of your home connection, so having two separate connection points to one computer is pretty worthless.

So you have an ISP for your cable modem and your "soft connection" with the nexus is through your cell phone provider?!?!?

gotcha--I glossed over where you said that you had a connection from your mobile.

Can't do that on a single user account on windows then. Windows will just use the first current connection it detects (and as far as I understand, if windows 7 has both a wired and wireless connection, it defaults to using the wired one exclusively, until the wired connection is disconnected or until the user selects a specific connection to use--but you cannot use two simultaneously).

Actually, you can use two (or more) internet connections specifically, depending on how you set up the routing on the computer. As far as I know, on the computer-side, you can only do so if you want to connect to a specific IP or range of IPs through a specific gateway.

I personally download from the Newsgroups through my DSL connection, but surf and do all other internet-related activities through my Cable connection... On the same computer.

Way to be helpful with your two posts in this thread...

Two connections coming from two sources--one is their wired connection, from their cable modem. The other is from a wireless signal from their mobile phone acting as a wifi access point. The question was whether they can use two connections simultaneously in windows, telling specific applications which connection to use.

Regular Windows 7 will do load-balancing between two (or more) connections from the same original IP address, but it won't allow for directing one program to use one connection and another to use a second one if it's between a wired and wireless connection.
