I thought about doing that, but I have been avoiding their site to stop my self from drooling over the deals they have on Thinkpad X201's with 2.66ghz I7, 4GB RAM, and 320GB HDD's for ~$1,100.

Why do you want an Nvidia gpu that will up your cost if you aren't playing games on it?

a good card cuz I want to watch HD movies I have load of mkv HD stuff sometime I watch it & my old pc lagged bad.

The PC im currently using is good, no lag but compressing files is still kinda slow & I can run only +3 win xp copies in virtual machine + a game instance in a background + 2 firefox with say +-50 tabs open & many downloads open watch a movie & then it starts to get laggy.

But I want to quit gaming. my custom win xp must stay tho. And I dont want to pay for some win 7 *****...that I will never use.

my reseller ask for following thinkpad 4000$ USD (ill ask them how much they will ask for the 1,2k$ one)

Code:
T410s i5-560M(3.20GHz), 2GB RAM DDR3, 160GB Solid State Drive, 14.1in
1440x900 LCD, 512MB nVIDIA Quadro NVS3100m switchable, DVD-ROM, Intel
802.11agn, WWAN upgradeable, Bluetooth, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure
Chip, Fingerprint reader, Camera, 6c Li-Ion, Win XP Pro (W7 Pro
litsents). Price 3990$.-
That 1,249$ looks really good, but im paranoid, if it has a webcam Im not going to buy it. And I would also need to pay 200$ for junky windows & who knows how much for the 500GB hdd

Edit: looks like its 64bit os they have there I wonder it the hardware will run xp ?

Now thats cleared up, what are my options now?

My wife got a well-equipped ThinkPad Edge 14 for $400 last month.

Do you need to run XP? If so, what for?

You are probably paying only $50 for W7.

Do NOT buy a SSD included in the laptop... they overcharge and you aren't sure which SSD is provided.

1. Your machine is RAM and possibly CPU limited trying to run all those things at once.

2. $4,000 is not right for a thinkpad of those specs, you sure you are not asking for 3 or 4 thinkpads with those specs? Also, your reseller is lying to you, that CPU frequency is not 3.2ghz, it is 2.66. The "3.2ghz" is only what the chip can turbo boost to for ONE core when running single threaded applications.

You don't have to go through a reseller, just hop on lenovo's site.

3. You don't pay for Windows 7, it is included in the price.

4. Easy solution to webcam problem; uninstall the webcam/disable it in device manager, problem solved.

Lenovo is a fun site to order from, you can get some ridiculous discounts if you order at the right time.

Gotta check if they ship within europe.

Win Xp cuz I nLited my win xp, removed all the crap I never use, kept printer/lan, smart card & rest of the useful functionality. After I cropped it, it became around 100MB install & less than a gig after install. Then I tweaked regisrty, removed animations & rest of the crappy things that are in the way to get even better performance.

And now I have a wonderful. win XP install that runs without problems even at 64MB RAM. I prefer 90MB for smooth run tho, cuz 64 is little laggy.

And I know that all my programs work & are compatible with my windows. And it runs good & pretty fast.

I like things that are practical & convenient. 4 GB iso & 15GB after install is not convenient...Im not going to argue with anyone, I like my win xp & the win corporation can stick their vista or 7 or whatever its called u know where....

Edit: looks like I need to pay + 20% tax so its 1,4000$ USD already. maybe it will be cheaper to just fly to usa & buy it from there.....

btw I cant have a camera in the school. They are also paranoid

Does it matter?

You are looking at an i7 and 4GB RAM.... all your tweaks would mean you save less than 1% resources. You will never notice the difference. Save your stripped XP for something that actually needs it.

In fact, you are probably running on XP 32-bit. That means you will not benefit from 64-bit processing nor all your memory.
