980x overclock questions... - Page 2

Yeah so you are sort of scared into the shortened life disclaimer. We all get that one piece of hardware that fails an overclock and dies; its such a hit to the ego.

Well, not afraid just cautious ^^ just warning because in those days it was a LOT of money ^^ and this one is expensive 2. So if you aren't that rich it would hurt quite a lot.

While this is true to some extent, saying it that way makes overclocking seem much more dangerous that it actually is.

CPUs are designed to last 12-15 years (of course they will be incredibly outdated by then but that is beside the point). If overclocking reduced the lifetime of the chip by one third (a huge amount relatively), you are still looking at roughly 8-10 years of life.

Now let me ask do you plan on keeping your current chip for 8 years? I sure don't.
At long last...

I just did that last night, outside in sub-zero weather with stock air cooler 4.6 was the limit I could manage for some benchies. A few seconds of cinebench was enough to hit temps in the 80s.
Definitely not for 24/7.

@MCBrown: Your absolutely right ^^ but still the fact that SOME proc aren't as resilient 8-10 years on a high clock. as said before it's just all chance

@FtW 420: indeed, did the same thing I made some photo's and the temps were around -6/-7 (outside) and i reached about 46** with lower temps, but almost the same
