------- Original Post -------

Oky guys, after almost 2 months from replacing my stock/old water cooling stuff (Gigabyte 3d Mercury) to new items (Spend 500+ and the shipping cost). And after long time of testing.

I am 100% stable at 4.3 HT ON.
Temp is under 75c all the time

All my family, starting from my wife, brother, sister.. Blame me to do that upgrade and told me that i am throwing my money

Is that result which i reach (4.3 HT On) Worth the $$$ or Worthless as they said?

Your respond is appreciate.. I want as many proves as you can guys that what i spend is worth, If its really worth. To show them to my family.

if it's worth it to you, that's all that matters

What could you do before? HT is pointless in games and such, so if that is the main focus of your system, then you wasted money. If however you do rendering and other heavy tasks it may help, although if you spent a lot you could have equally sold your i7 and used that money to buy one of the Hexacores.

If you have to make a thread to prove something as trivial as this then you have bigger problems than whether or not the money you spent was worth it.

Not to mention that question is completely left up to personal opinion and really can't be based on fact unless you want to compare actual computing power to a system without watercooling that you spent the same amount on.

I can almost guarantee you I can get more computing power per $1 spent with air cooling than you can with watercooling.

Watercooling is worth it for a few reason:

1. If you want extremely high overclocks, even though you can get extremely close, if not just as high on your overclock with air cooling.

2. Looks... it looks cool, no explaination needed.

3. Noise. You can effectively reduce the overall noise of your system by watercooling it.

So is watercooling worth it? It depends on your state of mind.

Is watercooling financially worth it? Again it depends on your state of mind.

Is watercooling financially worth it based on gained computing power alone? No.

I have always wondered this same thing. I personally keep mine due to my use of VM, I could also use a VM with HT off but would not be able to use as many.

Well, it would help to know what you're doing with that computer? If it's just to check email, then I'd have to agree with them.

TBH, I think any i7 desktop processor is overkill for 99% of the users out there, and even the 1% that it isn't overkill for probably rarely use it to its full extent most of the time.

This. I would tell my wife/brother/any other sucker to go to hell. I spend my money and free time how I please.

err... depends u play on pc , Do you enjoy it. do you like it. Why are you worried on what they think. I had 3 i7 rigs before this one. i dont think i wasted cash as im water cooled. I see you got 285 in sli. well My 285 hits 90 degs full load on air (summertime) and 480gtx hit 92 in summer. and now on water its 52 degs HOTTEST. And i been folding on it (meaning 100% load) I dont hear the 480 fan kick on blowing @ 100 % or the cpu fan. I think its worth it .

I agree with your family. The temps you are posting are quite high even w/HT on @4.3GHz. Either you did something horribly wrong or you got ripped off.
