Well, you could sell the 450 to cut costs a little. Do you have to get a 570 though? Sure, they are pretty good, but a 470 would be much cheaper now and still perform how you want it too. I would get the 580 or 570 if I had the option, but you always want to get the best bang for you buck, so it is up to you how much you want to spend.

So I don't know if this throws anything into the mix, but I do have 2 monitors set up, but the games that I have tried so far, only actually display on one. While the game is on though, the second monitor just shows my background image. Could this have anything to do with it? Sorry for being an amateur.

Running two screens from the same card will have an effect. If it was a high range card then the effect would be less of a problem but running two screens at 1080 off the GTS450 wont help it.

So should I just unplug one every time I play, or is there a way to turn it off while leaving it plugged into my video card?

You could always get a GTX 465 and try to flash it to a GTX 470.

You don't need to unplug you can enable/disable via the Nvidia control panel. But if your using two screens a lot you might find it easier to run your second screen off a second card so you don't have to enable/disable it.

But I recommend you disable your second screen first to see if your happy with the improvements if so then hopefull a second GTS450 will be all you will need or you will just need to enable/disable the second screen when you game.Which will save you some cash.

A gts 450 sli as shown by others cam be compared to a GTX 460 and maybe when OCed to a 470. But it unfortunately can't even compare to. 570.
Others say, get the sli hack which would be cheaper.
For 1080 running the gts 450 sli, YOU CAN NOT max out EVERYTHING, most things but no everything. No only crysis, but BFBC2, Stalker and others. If you had that much cash, get the 570 and keep the 450 as physx. Or sell the 450 amd get just a 570 or get a second 450 instead of anything.

Most will agree that these cards are good to game on if using a single display.
I disagree. 5770 is nowhere near enough, and a 460 won't cut the mustard either if you want 60+ fps constant with everything maxed.

If budget is a serious concern, get a 470.

As far as I can remember a GTS 450 is infact slower than a GTX 260 Core 216. And If you SLI GTX 260 Core 216 they are roughly the same speed as GTX 295, which are about the speed of a HD5870. HD5870 is a good deal slower than a GTX 570. So... GTS 450 SLI will not come close to a GTX 570.

I upgraded from GTX 260 SLI (One core 192 65nm and one core 216 65nm) and they where overclocked a good deal. My GTX 570 at stock was faster.

Edit: A HD 5770 is somewhat faster than a GTS 450 and a little bit slower than a GTX 260 Core 216.
