best video card for my system?

Thread Starter
hello ocn, what do you think is the best upgrade? i currently have a 4850 512mb installed, and am looking forward to a really decent upgrade (around $200-$300 budget) for a graphics card. i would like something that is at least double the performance vs my hd4850, no measly 25% increases (looking for 60%+). of course the cpu will be overclocked if stock is bottlenecking.

it would be beneficial if yall put in some benchmarks or something, i also have a 1080p monitor, so disregard my 720p.

at 1440x900, look for a deal on a gtx 460, you wouldn't even need the 1gig edition. well below budget, and more than enough power

at 1080p, go gtx 470 + accelero xtreme aftermarket cooler. clock up to 800-850 core, enjoy gtx 480 performance and then some

For $300 consider the 6950, it unlocks to a 6970.

A GTX470 is a nice buy right now but if you can find the extra to go with the GTX570, you would be even happier (I have both).

Another 4850 will give you double the performance in most games lol

If you want to stay red go with a 6950 (they unlock to 6970's )

Otherwise if you want to go green, a Gigabyte 470 Super Overclocked edition would be a great card, allow Phsyx, and be a bit cheaper

I upgraded from a 4870 to a 5870 and it was NICE upgrade.

5870s are running for 280$ now, they are good cards indeed.

I agree with members here, should take a look at the 6950 or 5870 depending on the price. Here is the link for some numbers. 4850 is about 6% to 7% slower than 5750 and GTS450.
