first time build

first time build woes...

Plugged in all coponents,
tried to turn cpu but fan heatsink fan would come on then right back off.
Took the standoff's to work, sanded them down, (I painted them while painting my case...?) thought that may have been the problem, nope.
started to unplug items one by one and when I got to the fans and unplugged them from the sys_fan2 the cpu started.

Now, am I supposed to have them plugged into this one directly, or, should I just let them run through all the time from the power supply? (which doesn't bother me at all)

What do you mean cpu fan won't plug in?

For fans, only CPU fan has to be plugged into mobo, case fans can be plugged into PSU directly via molex

Yeah, I plugged in the molex plugs, then plugged that into the sys fan spot on the motherboard.

So, basically I did it the right way! yes

No.

Case fans plug into the molex connectors of the PSU ONLY.

The CPU/Heatsink fan can be plugged directly into the motherboard. You don't have to plug any fan into a molex AND the motherboard.

You're doin' it wrong.

Yeah, that's what I did and it wouldn't start and I was like, c'mon, what the fudge. Then I plugged in just the molex and it worked! thanks guys.

I learned something today.

One more thing, on the cord for the fans, I have 3 molex plugs and on the very end I have a 4 prong plug, (like the one that plugs in the mobo) what is that for exactly?
