Dead Motherboard?

Thread Starter
I'm having this problem with my secondary rig.

The last couple of days this computer has been working fine. It has been doing a few weird things the past couple of days however. It kept throwing a pop-up saying it has detected a new audio jack plugged in on the back of the PC. I figured it was just a Windows problem and it wasn't that annoying.

However last night I left this PC on when I went to the store. When I came back it was still turned on, l but it was completely frozen with nothing on the screen with a solid glowing HDD light. I figured windows just crashed so I flipped the reset switch.....no POST....Blank screen.

The computer turns on and the fans run at full speed, but other than that..nothing. The GPU fan wasn't spinning so I thought it may have died...so I took out the GPU, switched to onboard video, reset the CMOS and unplugged the HDD and CD-ROM. Still nothing. Tried one stick of RAM. Nothing.

So is the motherboard dead?

That's what it sounds like.

Although I doubt it will resolve your problem, you can always try another power supply to see if that's the culprit. It sounds like your board is dead, though. Especially if it won't POST even with the bare minimum of components.

are there any lights on the mobo? If so check if its on or changed colors. Have you checked for blown caps? They should be brown and should give off a little smell. Check for any burnt cables. There are alot of things..
