Can i mix ram memory brands ?

post #1 of 14
Thread Starter
Hello, first of all i'm sorry for my English because i from Macedonia and second i'm first in this forum.
-So my question is can i combine ram memory brands like A-DATA with APACER, so correctly are the same performance and frequencies just difference of them is the brand name, and the other question is -> right now in my mobo i have 2GB RAM DDR3 10700 / 1333MHz (A-DATA) , so can i buy + 4GB RAM (with same performance) and with one stick to add into second slot of mobo to make it totally 6GB of RAM ? THANKS IN ADVANCE!

i have two different brand ram chips on my comp and they work fine....and as long as you can find a 4gb ram stick with appropriate specs for your motherboard you should be all good.

I can't see an issue if they are rated the same. (Someone will correct that if it is wrong)

If you are running a 64-bit OS then by all means go for >4GB

You may want to fill in your system specs on the user-cp page

It won't work in dual channel mode unless they're the same size/type/timings wise.

It should run, but you'd be better off finding another identical stick so you can run them in dual channel mode.

As long as they are running at the same speeds/timings/size then I see nothing wrong, but if they have differnt speeds/timings/size then they both run at the slowest sticks speed.

they only need to be the same size and in the right slot to run dual channel.

Um, I'm pretty sure other than size, all the specs have to be the same. You can have different brands as long as they're the same specs (Cas, Voltage, and timings).

4gb is enough for what you're describing.

edit::

I just wanted to add, that if you're motherboard supports it, dual channel is the way to go. But if you're board doesn't than it doesn't really matter and you can get any stick in there without fear of having performance suffer.

To run dual channel, just buy the same stick you already have in your computer and check your board specs to see how to install the sticks so they run in dual channel mode.
