470 sli, intermittent black screens

Thread Starter
hi guys , i'm currently running two gtx 470 sli's

oc'd them to a modest 700mhz , i didn't touch memory at all , using evga precision(although i think i might switch over to msi afterburner later on)

and while gaming every once in a while my screen will go black, computer will stop responding for 1-2 seconds, the fan profile i have goes away, and clocks and fan speed reset back to default, screen comes back, and i'm gaming again , only everything goes back to stock clocks and settings, 30 seconds later my custom fan profile kicks back in, but the clocks remain stock

games played: just cause 2(dx11), bad company 2(dx11), and mostly league of legends(dx9?)

i'm also overclocked to 3.5ghz on my i7

Happens when you're not stable on your clocks. You're probably going to have to download afterburner and notch up your voltage a tad bit.

hmmm the issue is still happening on stock clocks and settings

i've even gone as far as to go 1087 v , with stock clocks,

drivers sweeped with completeness, reinstalled and doesn't help

anyone else have any suggestions?

i'm going to swap slots the cards are in and see if that helps

This is happening to a lot of people. It's the drivers crashing, and then restarting. Head over to the Nvidia forums, there's lot of people with that issue, and many posts about how to attempt to fix it.

this is scaring me.

I'm awaiting my SLI bridge and now I'm getting scared that I'll get these issues with my GTX 470 SLI.

Had the same issues lately with the newer drivers. Cards have been 100% stable previously since the summer.

Just a note. I tried the latest drivers, on just 1 of my cards and I got considerably lower scores in Vantage and 3DMark11.

I rolled back to 260.99 drivers and I got my sig scores back (just about).

So I will be using SLI on these drivers.

I ran into something like this with my 480s SLI'd. My problem actually turned out to be my overclock on my processor to 3.8 on my x6. I wasnt putting enough power to it i think. I backed it down to 3.6 and it never came back. Have you tried with just 1 video card installed? I'd try that first and see if it still occurs. If it does, try the 2nd card by itself. Just to make sure one of them isnt defected since that can also cause an issue like this. If this doesn't work I would test going back to stock processor speeds just to see what it does. Hope this helps.
