965 Overclock Help

Thread Starter
I know there are loads of overclocking help threads and that I should read those but it is my understanding that every CPU overclocks different. Am I right?

Right, to the matter in hand.
I have just got an Asus Crosshair IV Formula and I am wanting to overclock now. I have tried overclocking my CPU and this is what I came up with. It boots and when I run Prime95, after about 30 minutes it blue screens.

CPU Ratio - 16
CPU BUS Speed - 250
DRAM Frequency - 1333
CPU N/B Frequency - 2750
HT link Frequency - 2000

Extreme OV - Enabled
CPU and NB voltage Mode - Manual
CPU Vcore - 1.5125v
CPU NB - 1.45v
DRAM - My default
HT - 1.225v
NB - 1.3v

Then I also set load line calibration to enabled for both CPU and CPU NB.

If it helps my RAM is this:
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/180490. This might be stupid but in the bios, the RAM is running at 9-9-9-24. Should I change it to 7-8-7-24 like the specifications of the product?

Can anyone help me get to 4GHz stable?

You may need to up the voltage to 1.55v to make it stable. Inn oveclocking nothing guaranteed. "saying that, smash_mouth pats the top of his case hoping to hit 4.0-4.3 GHz".

But yeah, the best bet is to up the voltage on the CPU and cross fingers and watch the temps.

I agree on bumping your cpu vcore but you may want to manually set your RAM to the recommend voltage (or +) compared to running auto. Also for your CPU/NB you may need 1.3v-1.4v for stability as well.

Why are you running CL7 1600Mhz RAM at CL9 1333Mhz? You should definitely set it to default speed and timings. For testing stability, use the multiplier only on the CPU as it helps to eliminate HTT and bus speed issues when they're unstable.

What was Ur last stable OC? And hows your temps under prime95? U should defenitly try to OC thrue the multi first, just to get the hang of it. Increase with .5 and run prime 95 for 15 min. if ok up the multi once again. If U bsods within the 15 min, up the vcore one or two notches. When U are satisfied or the temps holdsU back, run prime95 for 6 hours +.

@FlawleZ I am running it at 1600MHz at 7-8-7-24 now. I do not know why it was running low for

@ Maximous: My last stable overclock was 3684MHz. At the moment at that speed it is 34*c idle, 50*c full load. I shall try that thank you.

I have changed my config that I posted in the OP. It is now:

CPU Ratio - 20
CPU BUS Speed - 200
DRAM Frequency - 1600
CPU N/B Frequency - 2600
HT link Frequency - 2000

Dram Timings - 7-8-7-24

Extreme OV - Enabled
CPU and NB voltage Mode - Manual
CPU Vcore - 1.525v
CPU NB - 1.45v
DRAM - 1.65
HT - 1.225v
NB - 1.3v

I did not save them because I want to make sure they are ok and I haven't gone overboard with the voltages.

Are they OK?

That's A LOT of Vcore for just 3.68Ghz. My 965 BE runs 3.6Ghz prime stable with small undervolt at 1.28v. What does CPU-Z show once in Windows for CPU vcore?

Well it now I have got it stable at 3.8GHz with 1.452v but that is because it is on Auto in the Bios.

When it was at 3.6GHz the Vcore was 1.4v because the board automatically clocked it to that for some reason.
What I am going to try is:

Bus - 250
Multi - 16
VCore - 1.495 then up it a notch until stable
CPU N/B - 2500
CPU N/B Voltage - 1.375
