Nicked some cables when cutting off heatshrink!!

Thread Starter
I'm trying to sleeve my cables right now, and I was cutting off the stock sleeving and heatshrink. Doing so, I accidentally cut into some of the cables

How do I fix this? I have no saudering experience and I have a radioshack nearby
post #2 of 13
small piece of electrical tape and then put the heatshrink over it?

Soldering is easy... If you just nicked them then that is fine. Just put a small bit of electical tape over the cut. If you actually cut into the wire itself, solder the 2 wires back together.

I'll try to post a pic. like, I shaved a little off the top and some of the hairs underneath the colored coating got cut as well.

So I can just apply some electric tape over it and call it a day?
Some of those hairs are just for noise protection. You should be ok. Post a picture to be sure.

Hmm, sounds very minor.

Soldering is easy, literally it's very simple, get metal hot, blob, done. 'Leccy tape works too, but is messier to look at.

can't post a pic... Roomate took the camera and I'll have to wait until he gets back (6pm)..

What happened was, I was taking my XACTO knife and cutting off the stock sleeving, and the knife was kind of angled, and it dug into some of the psu cables, but not all the way through
post #9 of 13
when you say some cables...do you mean like a red a green a black etc? and did you totally disconnect them or are they still somewhat connected?
