Bit of a drawing of what happened. Some of the hairs[black] under the cable came off and some of the colored coating. The giant black box is the connector (24-pin)

use some eletrical tape on each different colored strand (for lack of better term atm) and then just put the heatshrink over it and your never know its there. If they are still connected you should be fine. But before u heatshrink it test it with eletrical tape.
