Help me overclock my nVidia GeForce GT 240?

Thread Starter
Hey guys I am new to this forum! I am 15 and this summer built my 1st computer. I just started taking interest in increasing performance on my PC and want to overclock my video card. So before I tried doing it I got Max FPS of 45 and Steady 40 FPS on Bad Company 2. Then tried to overclock and now I only get a steady 20 FPS and it gets choppy. Would anyone be willing to help? Maybe use teamviewer or anything. I am upr for whatever!

Looks like it's not stable. Increase voltage?

I would also suggest that your framerate drops could be temperature related. Check your case's airflow?

I don't know about you, but I haven't seen any GT240's that support voltage tweaking.

Trust me, getting input from more than one person is better.

EDIT: Small tip here

Load temperature can be found by using a monitoring program and a load generator.
For my example, I use MSI Afterburner as my overclocking/monitoring program and Folding@Home to generate a load. Different programs can be used to monitor temperatures and generate load. (eg. EVGA Precision, Rivatuner...etc)

Your card is safe up to 105c maximum. However, there is no guarantee that it will be stable at that temperature. It is desirable to keep temperatures below 90c.

Did you try overclocking your CPU as well? If so, that complicates things more and Teamviewer cannot be used to help you since it involves the BIOS. Did you increase voltage? If so, to what extent? Too much voltage or too high of a temperature can permanently degrade your CPU.

Hey guys! I am new to overclocking and want to overclock my nVidia GeForce GT 240. I have had my build for a few months and just started playing a few games that are heavily focused on graphics- Medal of Honor and Battlefield Bad Company 2. I have been trying to overclock all day and sometimes I will get a decent framerate maybe 45 Max FPS and 40 Steady FPS. Then I will up my card by maybe 50 and it will be choppy then I will go back down to how it was and the FPS will be 30 Max FPS and 25 Steady FPS. I have no clue why. Im looking for anyone who would help on this thread or even maybe screen sharing on skype with me, guiding me or using team viewer.

sLowEnd made some questions to help you guys out smile.gif

1) What program did you use to overclock? I am using MSI Afterburner

2) What are your load temperatures for your GPU? I am not sure :/

3) How high did you push your card's clocks? i kept going up up and up. didnt push everything to the limit, but i was close. blinksmiley.gif
4) Have you tried different drivers before? nope. tongue.gif

5) Have you tried returning to stock clocks before? I clicked reset in MSI afterburner redface.gif

Also My Build is below my signature so you can refer to that if needed.

You can check your load temperatures in MSI Afterburner or GPU-Z.

I'm a bit uncertain as to what you're saying. You're saying that when you overclock to a certain extent you start lagging in games?
