Help me overclock my nVidia GeForce GT 240? - Page 2

Sounds like when you suddenly drop framerates, you're going from 3D to 2D, that's just me though. And MSI Afterburner is the way to go biggrin.gif

You probably won't need someone to 'guide you'.

If you haven't already, you should follow this guide:
http://www.overclock.net/nvidia/592691-turtles-one-stop-nvidia-overclocking-faq.html

It covers all of the basics and the most faqs.

When you are dropping in frame rates, your drivers are probably crashing. Do you occasionally get a little notice in the task bar saying that the drivers have failed or something? If so, you probably overclocked your graphics card too high.

Tweaking using MSI afterburner is the way to go, 5-10Mhz increments. Not 50% in one shot eek.gif

You can control your fan speed using afterburner. Set a fan profile that will keep your gpu between 35 - 75C. When you stress your GPU, you should set your fans RPMs to fairly high level, e.g., 80 - 100%

I don't know much about your video card but since it's a lower end GPU, the power demand is minimal, probably 75 Watts max....I'm just guessing. I'm pretty sure you don't have a PCI-e power connector for your card..right?

Anyway, pull up GPU-Z and afterburner and use 5 - 10 Mhz increments for both core and memory. You should get it to a stable overclock using this method. Test for stability using MSI Kombuster.

I'm not sure if it's a problem on my end, but I can't see any picture attached. Nevertheless, there are a number of ways of overclocking and having it stick.

You could use something like evga precision, rivatuner, etc and have it change clocks at startup and have it boot up with your system. Or you could edit your bios and make the clocks permanent

I don't know what program you are using to overclock but make sure to click "Apply overclocks at start up" or something similar.

edit: Never mind I saw the pic.
