replacing my storage/steam drive and a few questions

Thread Starter
right now i have a 500GB drive i'm using for storage and my steam games.

All the games are downloaded to my SSD then i use steam mover to move them to the other drive.

first: is there a way to to make it so steam will automatically put the games on the storage drive so i dont have all the extra writes on my SSD or is it too late since everything is already installed?

second will there be a issue if I just create a image of the old drive and then load it onto the new drive since i used steam mover to move the files there?

Thanks

There wont be a problem with the image as long as the drive ends up with the same letter/label.

Personally I'd put steam on the HDD and move any games you want to the SSD with steam mover.

since i have used steam mover to move all the games to the HDD will i have to reinstall steam on the HDD and then reinstall all the games to the HDD as well or is there a simpler way to do it.

call it lazy but i dont want to waste 3-4 days downloading everything from steam again espically since the holidays are still here steams DL speed isn't great.

Moving Your Steam Installation
Warning:

It is highly recommended that you create a backup of your SteamApps folder before attempting this process. Neglecting to do so may result in a loss of all of your game content should something go wrong.

If you're low on space on the drive you have Steam installed, you can move the Steam folder to a different location. Here's an example of how to move the Steam installation between two hard drives:

1. Log out and exit Steam
2. Navigate to the folder where Steam is installed (by default: C:\\Program Files\\Steam\\)
3. Delete all of the files and folders except the SteamApps folder and Steam.exe
4. Cut and paste your Steam folder to the new location, for example: D:\\Games\\Steam\\
5. Launch Steam
6. Steam will briefly update and then you will be ready to play
7. All future game content will be downloaded to the new folder D:\\Games\\Steam\\Steamapps\\

Steam will update the registry files automatically.

I just copied the whole steam folder from C: drive to my storage drive D:

Deleted Steam from my C: drive and in my storage drive deleted the file ClientRegistry.blob.

now when you open up steam itll rebuild the file and say updating steam.

Works a charm mate trust me I had the same worries a few days back and did it was all fine.
