5970 Blue Screens?

Thread Starter
So, I got my 5970 in today. Crashed trying to play metro 2033 on ultra at 1366x768. According to my last thread I posted my antec earthwatts 650 should be able to handle this thing. Now, I'm not so sure. Are the blue screens from instability in the power or something? Or some other source?

A good 650 Watt PSU should be sufficient. I doubt it is the PSU since the computer would most likely shutdown rather than Bluescreen if not enough power is supplied. Does the problem occur when you try and overclock it, or does it happen at stock?

I think it was overclocked before, but now I'm running at stock and gonna try again soon.

Have you had any more issues with your system after putting the 5970 in? I already upgraded my PSU to a earthwatts 650, and all it is powering is the MOBO, CPU, and a DVDRW drive, so I think I'm good on power. I just wanted feedback from someone who's already done it.

Ah well, they've died down quite a bit, but I do get random crashes in some games. My guess is it's due to overheating. Which is weird considering I've got like 8 fans in my case, so that might not be it entirely.

I keep getting a BSOD with code 116 when I'm playing Crysis 2. Ill try it again with more fan speed and see if temperature is the problem. EDIT: I just played for the past hour at like 66 degrees and it didn't crash. I guess it is a temperature issue.

My guess is that the temperature rises too fast for the fan to program itself to speed up so it gets within auto-shut down temps and quits.
