Geforce common problems

Thread Starter
Hey guys!
I'm new here, and I was just (re)checking some broken GPU's that was dumped in my house....
And I was just wondering if there are any common faults that I can check first?
The ones I have here will not POST...
The first card is a XFX GeForce 8800GT Alpha Dog Edition (PV-T66p-YDD4)
The second is a nVidia 7800 (?) from a Dell machine...
I know about bad caps, but I don't se any broken ones...I opened them once before...
So before I start replacing caps I was just wondering about other Tell-tell signs...

the caps would be my first thing like you said. Bulged tops on them, leaking or what-not.

I'd bake the cards if you can't find anything visually wrong with them.

And by baking, you mean? scrapping, throwing away, or in the middle in the oven on 220 degrees for 20 minutes?..

400 degrees for 15 mins.

remove the cooler from the card first, of course.

I might also suggest a garlic-Cajun marinade for 3 hours first.

(But yes, serious about the baking.)

Forgot all about the search functions of this internet thingy....
So I found many has done this and worked....
So I broke down what i thought was a Dell 6800GT of some sort, It was actually a QUADRO FX3400.....
But anyway, stripped, cleaned & baked in preheated oven on 200 degrees Celsius for 11 minutes.

WORKED LIKE A CHARM!! Now for reflashing the BIOS back to QFX3400...(Looks like it's a bit of a problem).
Seems it's almost impossible to flash this card with a new BIOS....hmmm...I Smell a challenge...
I really want it to be a Quadro instead of Geforce, since it doesn't have Cuda for folding.
The other paperweight...the XFX 8800GT Alpha Dog Edition....is getting stripped and baked tonight....

One person actually claimed his idle temps went down after baking....likely?
What would the reason be for this...(maybee just changing cooling paste?)
