well done

Also, I think it needs to be generally accepted that HT OFF is a modification, not the other way around. If we are talking stable i7 it should be implicit that HT is ON. HT off is only for people pushing the limits of their respective chips (in terms of discussion oriented standards). I have NEVER experimented with HT off, as I feel that undermines the whole point of going with an i7 to begin with. Regardless, I do see the point but to refer to an OC as stable at 4.20ghz... with ht off... is misleading to say the least...

Bottom line... If you want to post stable OC's you better have HT on or EXPLICITLY STATE that it is off. It is a completely different ballpark with HT off.

Oh, I got a stable profile in BIOS with HT on @ 4.20 GHz, but I find the extra GFlops with HT off for putzing and browsing the web has a crisper feel to it than when HT is on. IMO. You barely tax 2 cores when on the internet farting around, so why do I need my CPU to allocate resources I could use to extra threads I will not?

Basically for gaming, at least, HT is useless.

HT is old buggerd tech that Intel throws on their because "high numbers" sell better than low numbers.

Depending on your use, you may or may not benefit from a higher clock speed and or having HyperThreading enabled, 4.2 Ghz HT off is a fairly common overclock for ~1.3V, but nice work!!!

I think you are missing my point, by a lot.

Maybe I missed it, you're not just showing your stable overclock?

Yeah, but you're sort of a ringer. Although I think we share a philosophy on how one passes the time when benching..

I have seen and crunched a lot of Linpack in my day, and I know a frakkin tight set of numbers when I tweak them.. ;-) You ususally get a certain amount on variation in the LinX numbers, even on a stable OC, but this setting got really tight numbers in IBT, oddly tight, and when I went to check it further I rebooted and got these LinX numbers.

bios. profile. saved.

There is a lot of context I left unposted. I did not think I needed to get into the details of what I was doing and how I got to where I got.

I assume everyone who reads my posts understands the context, and it is assumed people understand how to OC to 420.

Here I was hoping people would post screens of a tighter and more stable set of LinX numbers. GFlops and speed are not really the point.

Do you know what a BIOS profile is? The base profile is a tested and proven stable profile..

I actually forget to turn off Prime in the background sometimes, plus prime does not even come close to meaning anything in this discussion. Prime does not give you real-time stability feedback, LinX does. Try to keep up.
