LGA 775 better than LGA 1156???

Thread Starter
Ok I think that LGA 775's core2quad cpu's that have 12mb of 12 cache and are overclocked to 4ghz+ beat a 1156 anyday considering the LGA 775 motherboards can support DDR3 ram and have one or two PCI-Ex16 slots and they all cost under $100 when the LGA 1156 motherboards are off the chart sometimes cost as much as $300. Also some of the LGA 775 motherboards support USB 3.0 like this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131639 and im not sure sandybridge will be able to do much better......Im hoping sandybridge will make the LGA 775 parts prices drop like rocks then I will replace my AM3 rig with a LGA 775.

clock for clock, the 1156 will beat any 775 cpu.

why would u drop your rig for aging technology?

The times they are a changin'!!! Out with the old 775, in with the new. Clock for clock 1156 will beat 775. I wouldn't suggest dropping your rig, rather upgrade it!

The Nehalem architecture is far more efficient clock per clock. Actually around 30% quicker. Overall, though, on single threaded apps, they are about the same. Put it into an area that needs multitasking (like encoding video) and a 1156 chip will shine and beat the snot out of a C2Q.

Just because a processor has more cache means jack. The C2Qs (later models such as the Q9650) have 12MB of cache but it is divided by 4 amongst the cores, giving each core 4MB each of L2. L1 cache is not included into this but is 128KB/core . Because of this L2 cache is not shared. If a core needs more cache, it cannot access it.

Although more cache means more storage to keep a core feed, that doesn't mean the processor will be faster.

A Nehalem processor (iX series) has L1, L2, and L3 cache. L3 being shared.

These the Core i7 950 for example has (32KB instruction, 32KB data) 64KB L1/core, 256KB L2/core, and 8MB L3. L3 is shared so if one core needs more cache than the other, it can have it. This makes the overall design more efficient. On top of this each core can "talk" to each other on die instead of having the "talk" over the NB like the old C2 series. This further increases efficiency and work load sharing. Furthermore the fact that the Nehalem architecture has its memory controller on die instead of on the NB makes memory access much quicker as well, thus reducing the time between accessing ram and actually feeding the processor. This reduces the number of cycles the CPU goes without data and further increases efficiency and speed. Any time a chip has to go off die to access something, it is like going from freeway to a dirt country road, then back onto the freeway.

I could go on and on about this, but your assessment is wrong by a long margin.

Also your PhII is about the same clock/clock as the C2Q, why make a leap sideways?

On top of this, the 1156 mobos are COMPLETELY different than your 775 socket boards. They have more layers, more interconnects, needs for higher quality parts, etc. This all adds up. One top of it being newer tech means these boards don't come cheap. But I can get a decent 1156 board for under 100 if you know where to look.

You aren't making much sense.

Until these said new processors are released it is all nothing but speculation for the most part.

NVIDIA ATI the Radeon and Geforce in between gTX570 and HD5970 is GTX480 but below and above GTX460 in graphics if that's what you're asking.
