HD 6850 Gigabyte windforce overclocking - Page 2

Gigabyte 6850 got chil chip for voltage control
Gigabyte 6850 oc version got some other chip ,so no software voltage control
This is from unlucky owner of oc version
I managed to change voltage to 1.17 when i flashed 6870 bios ,so there is some hope bios editing will change voltage.

Glad to hear this. I will most likely be selling my rig soon and I might pick up a GB 6850 next time. They do look extremely sexy. ^_^

Hey prondek.

I ended up finding out the hard way about the Gigabyte 6850OC's too... I tried to modded the bios for more voltage but it would give me crazy reads for the shaders and ROP's if I changed it. Your saying that if you flash it with a 6870 bios that it will take the 1.175v and doesnt mess the card up? Right now I get 915/1180 with the 1.15v would help to flash it?

What 6870 BIOS did you use?

Hey guys,

Just wondering if anybody had any look increasing the voltage on the Gigabyte 6850 OC yet?

Failing that, whats the highest people have got it to without?

Got both the OC and non OC versions being delivered over the next couple of days but think I’ m going to refuse delivery of the OC version so I can get a refund.

Cheers,

OC version may OC to much higher clock than non-OC version though they're all run in stock voltage, I do think so. Get OC version will be great, and GIGABYTE is really a nice brand of video card.

Really? I thought they were basically the same (apart from the voltage control in this case) it’s just that the OC version was overclocked slightly at the factory?

I’m not saying you’re wrong; I’m just trying to confirm in my mind what it means when you buy an overclocked version of a card.

Don’t always want to be a n00b.

Cheers,

Okay so if I'm understanding correctly...

1) Only the vanilla Gigabyte HD 6850 will allow voltage mods; the OC version does not.

2) In order to mod the voltage on it, one must get a hold of the Trixx app from Sapphire. MSI Afterburner will not allow voltage changes on these cards (even with EnableUnofficialOverclocking=1?).

Can anyone confirm this?

thx

Wouldn’t take this so much as a confirmation as I haven’t tried this myself yet but, if it helps, you have just recited everything I’ve read hear and on other forums so, that does seem to be the general consensus.

Hmmmm....that's weird....

I've been able to pull out 920/1100 out of my sapphire card @ stock voltage, unless something else is correcting the undervoltage.

my card's as far as i know suck at overclocking. they are 6870's. but i decided to psot anyways

i can do 1000/1100. my memory cant go higher then 1100 or i get crashes, my core clock however is limited by the voltage needed for stability.

1.275VDDC. 1.3 max. and i dont feel like maxing my voltage
