Because of some of your posts he could have went and did something to his drive that would in fact brick it and therefore you would be the cause of him needing a new console.

I took it as his Firmware is jacked beyond salvage and he's lost the key. I based what i said on that. I was unaware you could just go DL that firmware for you drive again. I thought they were keyed, are they not? I too spend alot of time on Xbox Scene and work on alot of Xbox consoles. What I said I based on my own experience and what ive learned over the years. He's obviously not a noob at xbox modding if he's already flashed his drive.

I'm almost certain you can get original firmware but I might be wrong (might only be so for Hitachi drives). In his case though since he wants to update firmware he doesn't need the original firmware because his current flashed firmware has his drive key attached to it therefore all he has to do is dump it and flash with the new firmware.

Ive never heard of being able to DL the original firmware but if he is able to dump the firmware to retrieve the key than thats great. If its a bad flash etc and he's lost the key im confident in saying that console is a brick

Ya I'm assuming by his post that the drive doesn't read the discs because the firmware is outdated. I guess we won't know until he responds .
