Logitech C510HD Webcam, horrible problems... Oh lord.

So I bought this REALLY nice $60 Logitech Webcam a few months back, the C510HD to be precise. When I bought it - it installed perfectly, the software worked perfectly, etc.

I don't remember exactly when, but apparently something conflicted with Logitech's webcam software and caused it to stop working & crashing. So I tried re-installing it, and it did nothing. I tried re-installing again, including registry keys, all Logitech folders possible, etc.. Still nothing.

So I'm sitting here tonight thinking to myself "I spent $60 on a webcam, and it's not even working". So here I am doing everything in my willpower to try and get this thing to work again. Nothing I'm doing is fixing it.

I have even tried doing a "clean" install. Basically, I unplugged the webcam, uninstalled the software, unchecked "load startup items" & disabled all MS services to see if anything was conflicting with the installation of the software... Nothing.

Nothing I am trying is working. But it's really odd, and annoying at the same time. For example, the webcam itself is fully functional.

How do I know this? The software works.. but barely. Basically, I'll run the software and it says "No webcam detected". If I go to take a picture/video... the webcam actually works, but captures horrible quality compared to what it SHOULD be capturing. Also, if I try to close the program or go to the main menu, it crashes.

The microphone on the webcam works perfectly fine, too. I use it for Skype calls and Ventrillo.

I checked Device Manager and the webcam is listed under USB Controllers and Imaging Devices. Which means it's being detected and it's working.

So the problem is obviously the software.

Logitech support will do absolutely nothing for me since I've tried absolutely everything possible I believe.

I'm just wondering if anyone can shed some light, maybe offer a few suggestions, similar situations? Is there another program I can use that can capture video/pictures/audio that will support my webcam?

I don't know what to do... Will Logitech give me a refund? Because I think that's what I want at this point.

Edit: Also after some research I've learned that the Logitech webcam software installs something called Panda Media Booster which apparently hogs up all of your bandwidth! So I had to go and un-install an entirely unnecessary program.

IMO sounds like the camera might be defective. Go to the nearest store that sells the same camera and test it out (make sure they got return policy)

Use MSN messenger or Skype to test camera quality to double check the sensor. Chances are its gonna suck. If it does, cam is defective. If it doesn't, your software got broke - good luck fixing it. I would still swap cams tho

I tried calling a friend of mine on Skype and the quality/response time was perfect.

It's just Logitech's ****ty software.

Ugh, you think they'll give me a refund?

You might try Logitech's customer service, since you've only had it for a few months. I have the same webcam, no issues though.

Might as well. The way I figure it might be a known issue
