Overclocking AMD Phenom X6 1055T Questions

Thread Starter
Hi I am looking at buying a new gaming and 3d graphic arts computer and I am going to get the 1055t and overclock it to at least 3.5ghz hopefully... but I have never overclocked before so I am wondering can I go from 2.8ghz(stock) to 3.5 or even 3.8 or 4.0ghz with stock heatsink... Or what can i go up to with stock cooling? Just give me as much info as possible ! (Also if this helps at all the motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-870A-UD3... But if I can get anything cheaper that can still overclock to 3.5,3.8 or 4.0 could you let me know which motherboard would be cheaper but still do the same job.)

Also I am getting a radeon 6850 graphics card and I am wondering is it worth it to overclock that higher than stock for running games like call of duty black ops and starcraft 2... or for rendering 3d objects and video editing... Thanks in advance for the information!!

Im running a Athlon II 620 stock at 2.6 and I have it at 3.41 and I can max it at 3.5 but it only runs for about an hr like that its very unstable at 3.5 but Im pretty stable at 3.41

you can probably go to about 3.4 with a stock heat sink maybe lower.

You could go to 4.0 on the stock cooler, if you want to fry your chip. Spend the extra $30-$40 and get a nice cpu cooler, such as the Cooler Master Hyper 212+. Cheap and gets the job done. It will serve you better in the long run.

As for overclocking the gpu, it won't be necessary for those games, but we don't hang around this forum for nothing. Overclock the crap out of it.

It will be stable if you have temperatures under 55c while stress testing, and enough voltage.

More then likely the answer is maybe. Most 1055T hit between 3.7-3.9ghz.

And I'm trying to figure out way most people thinks all AMD Athlon II or Phenom II can it 4.0ghz+.

EDIT

Sorry. I'd re-edit my answer. I was help a friend with a Athlon II build and got confuse and put athlon II spec in there.
