sata 2 vs sata 3

Thread Starter
I have two hdd's one is a sata 2 and one is a sata 3, which do you guys feel would be a better option to run the os and applications on (after affects, photoshop, sony vegas, some games, etc...) and which one should I use for storage and videos that I'll be editing?

Would it make more sense to put the videos on the faster drive being that I'll be editing them and rendering them often?

Not sure, any help is much appreciated.

btw, these are the my videos to give you an example, I use camtasia to record them as well.

what HDs do you have? there is more to a drive than just the adapter.

My opinion would be to run the OS and apps off the SATA III drive, and the videos and such to be stored on the SATA II drive.

I'd run both drives off the SATA 2 controller. SATA 6GB is no faster until you start using SSD. Use the Samsung for the boot drive it's faster than the WD.

I didn't know if it would be a significant difference as far as sata 2 or 3 since I'm not using an ssd drive...Now, what if I do this,

purchase an ssd, (probably 32 gb) strictly for the os and enough room for updates.

all other applications on the samsung

videos on the wd

I think that could seal the deal.

I think a 64 would be better but I know everything comes with a price... if I had a sata3 board, I would have ordered one of these weeks ago.

in the review, someone posted their bench mark at
Seq Read: 369.00MB/s
Seq Write: 78.18MB/s

someone else claims 560MB/s in RAID-0
:::EDIT:::
can i post links to newegg on Overclock.net? ive never been called out on it before, just wondering.

it doesn't matter whether you are running off sata 2 or sata 3.

both hard drives don't even come close the speeds of sata 2.

only if you had a giant ssd raid array will you need sata 3 (or direct pcie data link)

the drive i posted a link to in my post above your post surpasses SATA2 with a single drive. 2 of them in raid-0 gets close to the limit of SATA3. I suspect that we will soon see more fordable PCIe storage.

thanks guys, I think I'll settle in for the 64. A bit more expensive but well worth it.
