What do you think of my xbox fan mod? - Page 2

^ This.

Duct tape fixes EVERYTHING, the whole face of my dads motorbike was falling off, but he managed to spend 2 rolls of duct tape and fixed it!.

but seriously, cut out the air grid on the back of the case and put some 80mm fans there (or whatever size fits)

also, NEVER EVER EVER use 1 of them "intercooler" things, because they will give you RROD within days, Or just start a fire like mine did. -_-

Good luck.

I disagree. If its cooled properly it can live a very long time. I know of some old ones with fan mods and new TIM still goin

I disagree. The Intec cooler that uses it's own PSU has kept one of my box's running for years now. It was only those POS early version Nyko coolers that used the Xbox's PSU that caused melting/RROD

One of my box's I 12v modded the fans, replaced TIM, Tapped up the shroud gaps, and added a small Chipset fan on the extended HS for the GPU and it runs cool as ice only is a tad loud. I got the power for the fans off the 12v source on the bottom of the MB at the plug. That box runs constantly. Problem is with the RROD is it's not just one thing but many. The early units didn't even have level standoff's and cause MB flexing. The falcons fixed the chassis issue and even shrank the CPU and improved the cooling on the GPU. Problem was though, the CPU sensor controlled the fans and since it now runs cooler than before, the GPU runs just as hot or more so than before due to slower fan speeds. IMO replace TIM, 12v fan's, tape up the shroud for better suction, and let the box cool a few minutes on the dash after a gaming session and you will never see the RROD

That is an awesome mod! I should try putting my left over fans on my 360! (I have had four 360s due to overheating...) Towel trick FTW!

Woah too many fans lol even my pc doesnt have that many in my 360 I replaced the stock GPU heatsink this one:

with this one below

even though my 360 has the 65nm CPU and GPU I've never understood why it never came with the 2nd heatsink but anyway I cable tied 2 of the 3 corsair dominator airflow fans on the heatsink that branches off from the GPU heatsink and replaced the rear fans with the talismoon ones and my 360 has always ran fine, was abit hot before the mods but it also ran fine then aswell

Heres some pics of mine:

Had to cut away abit of plastic on the top casing because the fans kept hitting that part when they are operating

Btw were you getting any hangs or freezes before the mods? I taped the heatsink shroud up once to cover the gaps and seemed to get it freezing everytime I played nfs undercover but it was fine before I taped them up so I took the tape back off

I get occasional freezes but it's probably game related because it happens rarely..
that's a nice mod of yours!

btw what's those little blue heatsinks called?
