2011 Gaming Build

2011 will bring a small change for me as I steer away from benchmarking for a bit and focus on school. I'm going to change my computer into a gaming machine with enough performance to play games at nice frame rates when I need some fun.

I don't wanna build anything crazy or too powerful. I will be gaming at 1920x1080 so I won't need a big beefy video card.

I am selling my X58 setup due to me getting a good price on it and that along with selling my higher end parts will fund a new build. I was thinking I'd go with P55 because Sandy Bridge availability will take some time here in Brazil.

This is what I had in mind for a build:

Core i7 920
Asus Rampage II Gene

ATI HD5870
LianLi PC-A04B

2x Seagate Barracuda 500GB HDD's

I'm keeping the rest of the components in my sig rig.

I also wanted to get a nice looking liquid cooling setup pieced together. I have some parts but it doesn't exactly look very nice at the moment. This is what I was thinking for a loop:

Stinger V8 (Already have, gotta order a custom mounting system)
MCP 355 with Acetal top (already have the pump, need the top)
240mm rad
4x 120mm fans (need suggestions on this)
Small res (need suggestions, looking for something cheap, but nice looking)
Fan controller (I think I'll make this one myself)

I'd like suggestions for which fans to get for a push-pull configuration on the rad. I'm not sure if the rad will be enough for my configuration, but I'll try. If more is needed I'll order a 120mm or possibly another 240mm rad.

I created this thread to keep track of the build log as I receive parts and so I can get suggestions if I'm missing something or need upgrades.

You probably know this already, but I'm just gonna throw this out there... since you're only gaming, the i5-760 would be great. Every benchmark I've read shows that it's essentially identical to the i7-860 (again, just for gaming).

Great looking build. I know absolutely nothing about non-air cooling, so I won't comment.

First parts are going to get here the first or second week of January. Getting a Core i5 750 and a GTX 580 for Forum Warz. Will sell the 580 after I'm done with it.

This is how the build sits right now. I have slightly changed how this build will pan out. Right now I'm just preparing for Forum Wars. Only thing missing is the processor heatsink, which should be here in a couple of weeks. I will edit the OP with Heaven Benchmark results on the 580 once I get around to running it.

Must.. insult.. Seagate.. drive.. Must.. resist.. temptation..

Looks good otherwise, but really, don't expect more than 6 months to a year from a Seagate drive.

What case you gonna be rockin'?

Yea, I know they're not the best, but they were my only option. I've had to RMA my first Seagate drive after about a year of heavy use and I can live with that. RMA was a breeze especially since they ask us to ship to an address in my neighborhood. I just took it to them last time.

Forgot to put the case, it's going to be a LianLi PC-A04B unless I can find something cheaper and up to par. Going for a classy mATX gaming rig.
