raid 0 setup

Thread Starter
so my second samsung f3 1tb is set to arrive on friday. what should my raid setup be? should i go for 128kb stripe size? pc used almost exclusively to game on. from what ive seen 2 of these in raid 0 give almost the same read and write performance of an ssd (except the access time) but for a fraction of the price

RAID-0 128KB would be perfect for games, short stroke it and you will have a lightning fast setup

I had two F3s in my sig rig in a 128k strip and it worked great. So great I added 1 more on top of it and short stroked it by 1/3rd because installing the OS on a 2 TB partition was just easier that way. Not to mention the performance boost of the short stroke. On an AMD controller 3 F3s in RAID 0 SS'd is going to top out the mobo in terms of performance and give you a 6.4 Windows Experience score. My access time didn't improve much however. It is sitting at about 10.2 right now and it was around 12ms with just 2.

You will really like the performance boost, just be sure to back up sensitive data.

Access time, IO performance and boot time obviously won't be as a good as an SSD, but you won't have the degradation of performance like an SSD and you will have 2TBs of space and the same performance 8 months later.

Good luck, you will have fun with that.

thanks guys, i have one query my access time currently with one is about 13ms, now i understand its the time taken for the spindle to reach the correct location and read the data? if your playing a game and the disk is defragged, surely the spindle will be in about the right place to get other files needed for that game ie the spindle wont need to move far at all? so the access time for those files wont take long? also can i have some help with short stroking, i dont know much about it? i want my games to run as fast as possible given my setup. is 128kb best stripe size? thanks
