Bad Company 2 Mouse Movement Stutter

Thread Starter
Hey guys. I picked up bad company 2 in the steam sale and it's been giving me headaches from square one. I figure I'd be able to run everything at least on high with no aa but I only get 20-40 fps. Medium only nets me an increase to 20-50 which I consider playable. Apparently this game relies heavily on quad core processors...

Anyway, the main issue I've been having is this terrible frame rate stutter I get whenever I use the mouse to look around or aim at a moderate speed. It seems like the fps drops to around 5 at times when I'm aiming rapidly. Interestingly enough the FPS stays around 30-40 when mouse aiming (according to fraps) it just appears to have massive stutter. When I just use WASD to move around the FPS remains playable. The issue only manifests with mouse aiming.

Does anyone have any experience with an issue like this? It makes the game unplayable. Thanks in advance!

Already googled/searched here for about an hour.

Try running it in DX9, that'll probably fix it.

Edit: it's not in the menu options I think btw, unless they threw that in in a patch, go into My Documents/BFBC2/Settings.ini and change "DXVersion=Auto" to "DXVersion=9."

have you got any controllers plugged in, I remember when bfbc2 was first released there were mouse issues if you had any controllers plugged in. Your PC should be able to run it easily as I run it on my 2nd PC which is a E6750, ATI 2900 pro, 2GB ram.

OP you are correct, BFBC2 loves a good quad but will play fine on a dually, my grandsons play it on E8400's at stock clock speeds with good results
Try playing with out that CPU hog known as Fraps running in the back ground

Try using MSI After burner to monitor your frame rates and OC your video cards
it has an adjustable polling rate which means it can have it's CPU needs dialed down

Yes, my phenom II x2 555 BE @ stock clocks plays the game perfectly smoothly.

I cannot detect any stutter.

I have disabled HBAO, AA, and shadows on low...

Thanks for the replies everybody. I do have a controller plugged in tongue.gif I'll try it without and dx9.

And I do have afterburner. I'll use it's fps monitor instead of fraps, thanks!

Much love guys, update pending.
