Neither of those articles are particularly good for power estimates (at least not for low power HTPC use).

You're right, though, i3 isn't worth it from a cost savings standpoint. It'll barely make a dent on your electricity bill. Of course, how big/small that dent is depends on electricity costs in your area. Where I live, it's $0.20/kWh.

i would sell the Q66 for an E52 or something, and the 1066 RAM for 800 , will pick up $60+ and will run just as well as an htpc

I would just keep the RAM if you plan on using a DDR2 mobo.

DDR2 is cheap again so the cost of shipping and risk negates the savings.
Once again...

Thread Starter
Just thought I'd followup in this thread in case anyone's interested.

I've decided to go with the following (unless I change my mind within the next 3 days lol):
AMD Athlon II X2 255 (if not in stock then 250, <$5 price difference)
ASUS M4A785-M mATX AM3/AM2+ 785G
Antec Fusion Remote Black Case

Salvaging:
Patriot Viper Series DDR2-1066 (2x2GB)
WD Green 1TB HDD
Antec TruePower 550W (if this fails/too loud, I'll go get the Corsair wx-430)

Also just bought a Harmony 650, upgrading the TV, along with a new HTIB!
Safe to same I'm fairly excited for my return when I get home.

Didn't go for the 880 for reasons stated earlier. Although the USB 3.0 is enticing, can't say I'd wanna spend extra for now ram. I figure when I do need a strong system I'll likely just fork out the cash and get something top of the line and "future proofed". I do have a few days to change my mind haha

Thanks everyone for the input
