I pretty sure the 50 can OC to 5.5GB/s. Even if they don't, its not the mem speed that brings most of the performance increase.

Also, check this.
Out of 79 6950's, 79 unlocked and worked with no problems.

You do realize that those are only the ones reported right? I guarantee that there are more than 79 6950 owners on OCN and Techpowerup combined. Search the forums here in the ATI section theres a couple users that have reported their cards artifact now.

Like I had said if he already had these it would be great, but he's shooting himself in the foot buying the 6950's and expects them to unlock. Does no one remember all they 465 hype not to long ago, look how fast that got killed off. Thats all this is, and it will get stopped as well. He also said that he just bought an i7 setup in another thread, so it seems like he has the cash to get the 6970. If your going for all out performance its best not to try to cut corners like this because you dont know what your gonna get.

I've seen people have artifacts, and I've seen them fix the issue.

Who's going to stop it? Once flashed, how can you tell the difference between a 6950 and 6970? We currently have no reason at all to believe there will be a problem with these cards.

A 6970 is a nice card, but it's not going all out for performance. And if he (or anyone) does not need the moeny, then certainly don't ever waste time buying a cheaper card - get a 580 or 2 6970s. But saving a bit of money to spend elsewhere helps most of us, and right now the 6950 is looking like a bargain. You've bought a 6970 and you're happy - great. But there are plenty who have bought a 6950 and their cards are performing at the same speeds as yours (and mine as it happens).

I'm talking about future cards, theres no saying if they haven't even already begun laser cutting out these SP's. No one knows. I'm willing to bet AMD is not going to keep selling the cards like this. They are hurting their own market by doing it, dont forget that.

I agree that saving money is good but what I'm saying is dont expect it, get them for where they are at performance wise. If they unlock great, if they dont yeah well it happens. But dont go into a $600 purchase expecting $740 performance.

Do it if you aren't afraid of it dying (everybody is. Who wants to waste $300?). If you are, just spend the extra $60-$70. I heard somewhere for some reason it's faster than 2x580 in sli.
