Windows 7 not recognizing Seagate Barracuda 500GB

Thread Starter
Windows 7 is not recognizing my Seagate Barracuda 500GB. I updated the Seagate firmware AND installed the drivers. Still in the BIOS, not in Windows 7 "My Computer". Any Thoughts?

Did you format the new drive?

Go to the start menu, type "disk" in search, click create and format hard drive partitions, and you should see it in there.

It most likely needs to be formatted before it will show up in My Computer.

My BIOS detects my 150GB Raptor X, as does 'Device Manager' which states that the device is 100% functional.

Yet when I go to 'My Computer' it only shows my main Barracuda and my external HDD in which I can access.

Has anyone ever encountered this before and have they found a fix?

Regards, Iced.

The RAPTOR drive should show up there, right click it and press assign letter and path.

Give it a letter like F and once done your drive should show up in My Computer.

I followed your steps Dead and it seems my HDD was 'unrecognised' so I've created a 'simple drive volume' and it is currently formatting it now. It's at 60% at the moment and has been like 20 minutes

But I think this should have it pretty much sorted once it has finished formatting!

Thanks for the info guys, very useful for the future. I've never come across this in all of my time as a Windows/Linux user.

I'm guessing the HDD must have been formatted to Linux or something prior to me receiving it!
All the information from a previous thread I created where Windows 7 would not detect my Raptor X. Hope this solves your problem.

Original thread.
