Well, I think it might be time for me to join the "dark side"...according to Star Wars at least red=bad guys lol. Lucky for me I am more of a fan of the dark side in these movies...blah blah blah..back to where this should be going.

I've been an nVidia user but that isn't saying much since I've only purchased two cards in my lifetime and I'm not a fanboi. Really what I would like to do is utilize the Eyefinity ability which leads me to you guys over here.

Basically, I'm looking to begin upgrades on the sig rig, but I don't know where to go from here as in which model to choose which would best support me. I play SC2, TF2, and some FO and will probably purchase more games that will work well with Eyefinity (suggestions?) once I get the setup running. I know none of these games are graphic intensive and I can handle it on the 260 already but what else are we here for but to keep overclocking and upgrading parts right? My question to you guys is which model would you recommend and what manufacturer, too. I haven't followed news lately so idk if anything new is coming out from ATI/AMD or if the 6800/6900 series are the latest and greatest (I'm guessing they are last I checked).

Edit: I'm also assuming that doing Xfire would require me to bump up the PSU? Maybe to an 850 or bite the bullet and get a 1000(overkill?)

Right now it seems like the 6950 is a real bargain, what with being able to unlock to 6970 speeds and all that. If I didn't already own a 6970, I'd probably have gotten a 6950 instead, just because it seems to have a better price/performance ratio.

If having decent performance but still having good eyefinity capabilities is important to you, a 6870 would do well for more of a budget. Its performance is comparable to a GTX 470, though I'd still probably just spring for the 6950, which bests the 5870 (which is still a great card) in plenty o' benches.

I've never overclocked a GPU yet, thought about it with my 260 but don't really know how. I'm guessing the software that it came with would've done the trick but I never tried it out, I would assume the same can be said for overclocking the 6950 if I get it? Just use the software it was packaged with to do so?

I recently installed a 5970 for eyefinity and the 10.11 and 10.12(unusable) drivers were so bad I quickly went back to my 480. I'd just get 2 gtx4xx or gtx5xx cards and run surround.

The AMD 6950 would be a great choice, regardless of whether it unlocks.

Is surround like Eyefinity or does it just make use of multi monitors? I'd like to stroke my own epeen (or w/e thats called) with the upgrades I am going to be doing and would like to take advantage of the Eyefinity type technology playing games like Dirt and FO3 (I think supports it?), but I could be off on this stuff and it might be somewhat unneccesary? Does anyone have examples of games that support Eyefinity so I know if I really need to invest in the technology or not.
Edit: Found on AMD's website a list of games supported

If you plan on gaming at a higher resolution (above 1920x1200) / eyefinity etc, then having the 2GB VRAM would be pretty helpful.

As said, unlocking a 6950 w/ a BIOS flash would be the way to go in this case.
So long as you're getting a reference card it looks quite promising, worst case it might require a bit extra voltage to keep stable.

Won't be difficult to flash either - check out this thread.
Was wary myself when I ventured into it too, but it's really not hard - just take your time make sure you follow the correct steps

Surround is Nvidia's take on multi-monitor gaming. The caveat to this is that you have to have at least two cards to run in SLI in order for it to work. Makes sense from the standpoint that to maintain appreciable framerates for larger resolutions that you should have more than one GPU, but it also can be quite expensive as well depending on which set you choose as opposed to AMD's single card Eyefinity solution.

Yeah I just saw that thread and sub'd it for future reference. I think I will be going with xfire 6950's and bump them up to 6970s . How do I know if it is a reference card?

For monitors, will my Acer 22 work fine?(with adding another 2 of course) and should I need an upgrade to the PSU as well or will the 750 be able to handle xfire 6950s? Also, what manufacturer would anyone recommend for these cards?
