Oh, so I don't have to go xfire to use Eyefinity..thats pretty nice. Is it recommended at all to do so or does it not really matter?

If you're using small monitors you may be able to pull it off with one card. Chances are you'll want 2 anyway to get good framerates with higher settings.

That video looks pretty awesome Suprcynic, so I could go the route of SLI 460s and run this surround setup then. Either way I think I would like to go SLI/Xfire but like Suprcynic stated, the drivers aren't working well for the 6900s? Should I expect this to be fixed, is it that big of an issue, or should I go with 460s?

If you want to go through the hassle of un-clocking the AMD Radeon HD 6950 to an AMD Radeon HD 6970, get the AMD Radeon HD 6950. You can get the AMD Radeon HD 6970 instead if you don't want to go through the hassle. Just as a heads up, if you want to overclock it, the AMD Radeon HD 6970 can overclock better. For brands, I'd say Asus, VisionTek, Gigabyte, or Sapphire.

I ran a 5970 on 10.4 with minimal issues but the drivers seem to have gotten worse for that card with the 10.11 and 10.12 so I would expect that if the drivers for the 58xxx and 59xx cards aren't perfect by now the wait might be long for the 68xx and 69xx cards. I'm by no means a fanboy, I'll go with the better card, but for me ATI drivers were a dealbreaker.

If I were dead set on ATI and eyefinity I'd probably pick up a couple cheap 5850's or 5870's and go with them until ATI gets their act together. Also I know benchmarks don't mean that much but almost none of the higher performing rigs in vantage, 3dmark11, heaven, etc are 6xxx setups. They are being outperformed by 5xxx and nvidia.

trust me mate the gtx 460 drivers aren't too great either try searching gtx 460 stuttering and u will get a ton of results......well nvidia has told to fix it in the next official geforce driver release.....so u could very well say right now the drivers are not good for either of the cards.......

Yeah, I've never actually ran a benchmark because it isn't really something I follow, but I'd like to get into folding so I figure either way I go I will end up getting 2 cards. I feel like I've heard the same old song and dance with issues for drivers on ATI cards? I could be wrong but it seems like I've heard that time and time again so idk

Edit: Well damnit ghost...both these companies suck then! lol but I like the idea of being able to run a 6950 with 6970 marks, but then again, I am part of the Green Machine!! lol ahh I'm in between a rock and a hard place

well for ur info dual gtx 460 are neck to neck to gtx 580 in performance.....
http://www.hardocp.com/article/2010/...s_460_1gb_sli/
edit: gtx 460 when overclocked can easily reach a gtx470(stock) level of performance....and gtx 460 overclock quite well.....

SLI 460's are hard to beat as long as you don't plan on upgrading because you can't add a third card. They are very powerful for their low price base.

For drivers I can say I have had 0 driver issues with my 480. I can't say for the other nvidia cards because I haven't owned any. For ATI I have owned 5850's, 5870, 5970 and I have given up due to driver glitches. I will say that it sucks not being able to run 3 monitors on a single nVidia card. it seems like they would have figured that out by now but whatever.
