Sandy bridge laptops

Thread Starter
Is it worth it to wait for a Sandy Bridge version of a u30 or similar, or should I get the u36 with a 425m?

Basically, is the gpu component of sandy bridge better than the 410 or 425m? In general is it worth waiting for?

its prob worth waiting for because no matter what new products bring price drops on older products. So you would save money and know for sure which is better. Also sandy bridge is going to run cooler I would think since its a smaller manf

I get what you're saying. Price doesnt concern me that much because I'm in the industry and get deals anyway. Running cooler is good, but I mean flat out performance wise. I want something for express gaming and ultrathin portability. So I'm going to get put a 120 SSD in it. I basically want to be computing a the time.

I would wait for benchmarks and reviews before pulling the trigger. You already have a top dollar gaming rig so why would u get a laptop for "express gaming"??

Anandtech has some benches of the desktop cards, they are showing some increase in performance but it's nothing like going from core 2 to core i7. I would say if you can wait it out, wait. If you need a laptop now, go for it.

yea but primary benchies are never 100% for sure till they actually start shipping chips and we see more benchies. Thats not to say they arent right im sure they are right but what I am saying is the best benchies come when users such as ocn users get their hands on it and we see moar benchies. That being said I would def wait OP

Well it would be a different kind of gaming. I play gpu intensive stuff on my desktop, but I'd want sc2, civ5, etc to run fine on a laptop so when I travel I can be computing/gaming all the time.

Civ5 can run on an i3 with integrated - So an i5, i7, or lesser with disrete graphics should work fine.

I'm less sure about SCII, but I'd be willing to be an i5 or i7 could run it on medium with pretty good framerate. :]

I dont know how gfx intensive sc2 is but I am thinking you need a semi decent lappy card to run on low settings since its a newer game.

Agree, but intel has also stated that the performance increase will not be like core 2 to i7 as moving the NB into the proc brought on significant boosts along with the architecture changes.

It all depends on what settings OP wants to run it on, my 460m will play SCII at around 50~60 FPS on high no AA 1080p, but if you're fine with med high or lower a 5670 / 5650 or 445m will do you just fine.
