A 6970 tends to overclock further than an unlocked 6950.

Trade for 2 5850's? biggrin.gif

Believe me, I was debating on going with XFX again but I figured I could hold out with my 5850's till then. Granted theres almost no difference in the Asus and XFX anyway.

Oh I've read them all. Your not crapping on anything. I'm positive the 6970 can and will OC more than a 6950 with the 6970 bios. I'm not worried.

Thats fine I was just making sure you knew before you ordered so you didn't accidently spend $70 bucks more than you wanted to.

But if you OC'ing it you picked the right choice.

Yeah, I weighed the pros and cons of both. Decided to go the american way, bigger is better.

Can you please let me know something when you get your ASUS 6970 from Newegg. I ordered 2 ASUS 6970's from Newegg when they were first released and the PCB color of my cards are RED. Now looking at the pictures on Newegg, the PCB color is the traditional GREEN color.

My 6970's make a loud whining sound with everything I do, and I wonder if ASUS changed something on the PCB board, like different chokes, or inductors, or something???

But yeah man will you please let me know if they are infact GREEN colored now.

Thanks in advance!!

I took this picture before I installed it. It's kinda hard to tell but the PCB on mine is definitely black. Most of the pics I saw of them were red and thats what I was expecting. I wonder if there are any other differences. My fan isn't any louder than my 5850's, even with the same fan profile in afterburner.

WOW!!!! Thanks for that information SohcSTI. Did you order yours from Newegg ? I too wonder if they made any changes to them since the color of the PCB board has changed. That is very odd. I have 2 ASUS 6970's and they make very loud whining and clicking noises when I am on the internet moving the pages up and down, playing a game, benchmarking, anything that requires the video cards. I am not being nit-picky either, these noises are loud and to give you an idea I cannot hear the noises any longer when I set the fan speed of one 6970 to 69-70 percent. I think I may RMA both cards back to Newegg and try the ASUS 6970's they have now. I forgot to mention that I installed just one 6970 and took it out and put in just the other 6970 by itself, I tired moving the cards in different slots, nothing stopped the noises and they both do it no matter what. My power supply is Crossfire certified, Ultra X4 1200 W and I never experienced anything like this ever.
