I think I will try it. What risks am I taking? What could possibly go wrong if the driver you sent me didn't work? Thank you

it not post, but i have a strong feeling it could work since running the BIOS program in Windows should alert u if it will allow it to flash.

u could also try the HM version as well

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&softwareitem=pv-63120-1

I think GM stands for Gateway Machines and HM stands for Hewlitt Machines. The AM version is probably for Acer, which is a part of Gateway. So the board u have probably has custom made bios for a variety of different vendors

Thank you alot, but one more question. If the update is successful, what changes will be made? Will I be able to use AM2+ sockets, AM3, etc? What will my mobo enable for me to use if the driver is successful?

you should be able to run a AM2+ processor, AM3 probably not.

I showed u the post of the person having ur board in which he is running a 9500(95w) even though I saw a post that says the max is 89W.

The best bet would to get a 65w Phenom 9150e or 9350e if u want to be really safe.

also I found this

http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-HP-MCP61PM-HM-Nettle2-5-27-With-Unlocked-Overclocking-Options

if u get super lucky you might be able to have Phenom II support on that board.

I think you should also warn him that there is that slight chance that a bad bios flash could brick the board. Its a slim chance and I would trust dlee but anytime you flash anything whether its a mobo, gfx, cell phone firmware, etc. there is always risk of failure which means bricking it most times. I would do it if you really cant spring for a new board but if you can you can find a cheap am2+ board around.

Keep in mind though a new board means you must reinstall windows again with a new key since windows attaches to the motherboard.

Not if he bricks his board. He can use the "hardware failure" clause, which allows a new motherboard on the same key, although he will need to speak to a Microsoft agent. I had to do this for a new Vista key, and it wasn't much hassle.

true I forgot about that and I have personally done that. u basically get 2 keys for every mobo from microsoft; more if you can coax it out of them but that first key is always very easy to get.
