is my E8400 Overheating @ this clock? - Page 2

Answer to your question is no, 60c on full load is just fine.

In my opinion and from such experience auto overclockers are terrible, they may reach your overclock but they often overvolt way too much.

When you get home try dropping the voltages and run Intel burn test, If it's stable at lower voltages you should be good to go also watch your temps running IBT, anything between 80 - 85c is fine.

Hope this is of some help to you

i'm brand-new to overclocking, so i will be messing around with setting. I just bought a H50 last night and I never thought that overclocking could be so addicting and fun.

i use a mix of real temp and core temp to tell me, i ignore the Asus stuff that came with my board because it says its about 10 degrees lower than core temp.

Try just doing it manually by changing FSB etc, and lower your volts down if they have been raised because it is a very high temp for .15 overclock

okie so I did this.
vcore i set to 1.28750V

I left all the other voltages on auto

FSB (QDR), mhz is now 1500
Unlinked
Mem (DDR) , mhz is at 840

in the Bios it says its at 3.37

but in cpu-z in windows it says

1.248v
3.000 Mhz
9 x
333.3 Mhz - Bus Speed
1333.3 - Rated FSB

what did I do wrong.

I disabled all the Intel stuff except for Internal thermal control.

also its weird, I will set the configuration in the BIOS and press F10 to save it, it just hangs, I have to power it off and turn it back on to reboot, what is causing that?

I had my old e8400 running at 3.96ghz with 1.3v. I was using the True air cooler and my max temp was approx 75c.

Something does not sound right with your temps.

Keep your core temperatures under 75C at all times..

Keep your Vcore under 1.40V at all times for 45nm CPU..

i have the exact chip and the max vcore is not 1.45 do not go over 1.3625, that is the max according to intel. Although i would think its pretty common for you to be able to reach 4ghz with around 1.3v or so maybe less (mine was 1.26, i got 4.2ghz @ 1.32v).

Very odd, not had an issue like that myself before.

Have you tried loading the CPU in windows to see if you can get a change from it?

And about your BIOS, it sounds like it may not be storing your settings, I assume that's why you're running stock after you boot, have you tried clearing the CMOS?

okie so if i set it to 1.26v, what setting do i change to increase the cpu's speed, everyone says do FSB to 400 nd go from there but i'm in the bios and its FSB (QDR), 1400 mhz ..... ???? how do i determine a 400 fSB out of 1400? its at 9x multiple with a 840 mhz mem clock unlinked.

FSB (QDR) of 1400 is just the quad pumped bus speed. if you want 400 set it to 1600.
