I have a quick question.

Will this Processor be compatible with my motherboard?

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...575&CatId=4348 (95W)

possibly, but more than likely not. Your board only supports AM2 chips, not AM2+ or AM3. Even Phenom I based architecture chips(such as the X2 7850 you linked) are likely incompatible. Not to mention the board only supports up to 89W chips.

If you're looking to upgrade, it's time for a new computer, sorry

Also that GT220 is what's holding you back if you game more so than anything else.

Ahh, I've read somewhere that AM2+ is backwards compatible to AM2 Sockets . Would it hurt a lot if I used a 95W chip on a 89W board? Should I take a risk?? Thank you

Not thinking it will work either a quick look says that board supports up to 5600+ 89 watt models which are before phenom's as well does indeed seem it is time to save for something new :/

DesertRat is correct,

The wattage is too high for your board...

here is your boards specs, http://support.gateway.com/s/MOTHERB...6254Rsp2.shtml

here is the chips specs from newegg, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103677

1. yes. using a chip w/ a higher TDP than your board is rated for can be a fire hazard. The voltage regulators are only designed for so much power to go thru them, too much and they'll overheat and possibly light on fire.

2. it's not jsut the power restraints that keep your board from being worthwhilely upgradeable. It's the BIOS support and physical hardware support as well. AM2+ added some power features, and AM3 added even more. Which is why even many AM2+ boards can't run the X6s, power circuitry.
