Why is my cpu not overclocking, yet in Bios is says different?

okie so I did this.
vcore i set to 1.28750V

I left all the other voltages on auto

FSB (QDR), mhz is now 1500
Unlinked
Mem (DDR) , mhz is at 840

in the Bios it says its at 3.37

but in cpu-z in windows it says

1.248v
3.000 Mhz
9 x
333.3 Mhz - Bus Speed
1333.3 - Rated FSB

what did I do wrong.

I disabled all the Intel stuff except for Internal thermal control.

also its weird, I will set the configuration in the BIOS and press F10 to save it goes to the baclk screen like its going to reboot, it just hangs, I have to power it off and turn it back on to reboot, what is causing that?

Are you clocking your e8400?.
should the vcore be that low for that clock?

if it hangs right after you save your overclock and you have to power cycle, your overclock doesnt go in effect. it hangs coz it wasnt stable enough to post. if it happens again and you have to power cycle again, go into bios again and change your overclock.

so then reduce my Vcore voltage ( all the rest are auto)? how would I increase the cpu speed if the FSB is 1400?

bios updates can help unfortunately for my 775 board i had to RMA to MSI. it would power cycle it's self 6 times and wipe the bios settings if it went over a 9mhz overclock.

Okie its running at 3.6 ghz now.

let me know if this looks right.

I lowered my vcore to 1.25625V
all the rest are auto

Increased 'NB PCIE Frequency (Mhz)' from 100 to 105mhz

FSB to 1600
MEM to 840

CPU-Z says this.

1.216v

Core speed : 3599-3600
Multiplier: x 9.0
Bus Speed : 400.0 mhz
Rated Bus : 1600.0 mhz

Did I do it right?

also according to Real temp idling its at between 37 and 39 Celsius.

is 75c about the temp it should stay at for being on load?

Your CPU settings appear to be correct for trying to achieve a 3.6Ghz overclock. Your voltages on the other hand... doh.gif

I suggest you use the search feature and find some overclocking guides, there are plenty around. As you increase clock speed you don't decrease voltage, you increase them (typically, unless you are an advanced overclocker trying to undervolt a stock clock or something, don't worry about that though). Increasing the vCore will increase stability for the CPU. You also have to consider you FSB voltage as well as your RAM voltage and other voltages. Overclocking isn't something you want to dive head first into. The water is usually shallow. Leaving them on auto usually leads to an unstable overclock in most cases.

After you have succeeded in overclocking and booting into you OS you must perform a stability test such as Prime95, OCCT, LinX, etc. These will test if the overclock is stable and can perform calculations without fault. If the test fails you need to reboot and either lower the overclock or increase a voltage somewhere depending on tell tale signs (usually) that veteran ocer's can spot.

Try the process as described above. You just have to start playing around (but delicately with small overclocks and small voltage increases) and observing the results. The best place to start is a guide though, it will give you a headstart.

okie, i was mid game in wow wasnt even in the game 5 minutes and it froze and crashed. i upped the vcore voltage 1 point to 1.27 from 1.26

should i changed the NB to as recommened 1.36v
and 1.32v on the HT
and just leave SB on auto, what the heck is SB?
I take DRAM is for the memory voltage?

now the memory is at 840, would it hurt to clock it down to a flat 800?

SB is the southbridge.
